Our Botanicals

Birch, Yarrow, Nettle, and Plantain are the foundation of every Kasvi Beauty formula. These four Nordic plants appear in every product — chosen for their documented skin benefits, present in meaningful quantities, sourced from suppliers who understand the land they come from.

Four plants. Chosen with intention. Present in every formulation.

These are not decorative ingredients. They are not on the label because they photograph well. Each one was chosen because of what it does for skin navigating hormonal change — and each one has been doing it, in Nordic tradition, for centuries before modern skincare gave it a clinical name.

Close-up of birch (Betula pendula) green leaves on a tree with a blurred forest background

Betula pendula — Birch

The birch tree is Nordic skincare before Nordic skincare was a thing.

In Finland, birch is everywhere — in the sauna, in the forest, in the water. Birch sap is one of nature's most bioavailable hydrators, rich in amino acids, minerals, and enzymes that support the skin barrier. Birch bark extract contains betulin and betulinic acid — compounds with documented barrier-repairing and calming properties.

For skin navigating hormonal change, where barrier function weakens and sensitivity increases, birch is not a trend ingredient. It is the intelligent first choice. It is also why every Kasvi Beauty formula begins with birch sap as its aqueous base — not water.

What it does: barrier repair · deep hydration · calms redness · supports skin microbiome balance.

White yarrow (Achillea millefolium) wildflowers with a blurred green background

Achillea millefolium — Yarrow

Warriors used it on battlefields. Your skin needs it for quieter reasons.

Yarrow has been used medicinally for thousands of years — its botanical name references Achilles, who reportedly used it to treat wounds. The plant contains azulene, flavonoids, and tannins that give it exceptional calming and redness-reducing properties.

For skin where reactivity and sensitivity have become familiar companions of hormonal change, yarrow is precise and purposeful. It calms without sedating. It supports the skin's own recovery mechanisms rather than overriding them.

What it does: calming · redness reduction · supports barrier recovery · reduces reactivity.

Urtica dioica — Nettle

The most underestimated plant in skincare.

Nettle is mineral-rich in a way few plants match — high in silica, iron, magnesium, and vitamins A, C, and K. Applied topically, nettle extract supports collagen production, strengthens the skin's structural integrity, and works consistently without drama.

During hormonal change, when estrogen decline accelerates collagen loss and skin loses density over time, nettle works quietly alongside the body's own processes — supporting what the body is working harder to maintain.

What it does: mineral-rich strengthening · supports collagen production · tones and clarifies · soothes inflammation.

Green plantain (Plantago major) plant with leaves and stems on a natural background

Plantago major — Plantain

It grows in sidewalk cracks. It also belongs in your skincare.

Plantain is one of the most widespread plants on earth — and one of the most overlooked in modern skincare. It contains aucubin and allantoin, compounds with documented soothing and regenerative properties. Allantoin in particular promotes cell renewal and supports the skin's natural repair process.

For skin that recovers more slowly — a common experience during hormonal change — plantain offers gentle, consistent support. It does not rush the skin. It works with it.
